Giving gifts to the fae can be a tricky business.
Or it can be simple, once we really understand what they want.
Let's say you are a being of light. No hands. No feet. No mouth. No stomach. What would you want? (Of course, you are a being of light, but you are also a being of matter right now as well - that makes a difference.)
So. No hands. No tastebuds. What would you want? Well, light is lovely. I understand that (to the fae) playing in the rainbow light cast by crystal prisms is a lot like a jacuzzi is to us human folks. Leaded glass crystals hung in sunlight (or moonlight or starlight) are really good for that. Wind chimes are also favorites for the gentle, mellow energy they create - I'm hearing a voice say, "A bit like a hot tub is for you, doncha know?".
However, life isn't all play, or at least not that kind of play. The fair folk do a lot of what we would call work. (They have a different attitude, but I've discussed that elsewhere - or will, if I haven't already.) They look after the energy of Earthmother and all her children - rocks, plants, trees, soil, bugs, animals, birds, people, and more. If it is part of the natural world, they have a concern for it.
So... the things I find that they appreciate are simple - a bowl of milk for the local stray cats (or raccoons) to drink, a bit of bread or cake for the birds (or even better, bird seed), picking up the trash in the woods and roundabout, building birdhouses, and planting and caring for a wide variety of plants, especially those that the local wildlife enjoy. These are all things you can probably do at home - and I hope you will. Hang crystals in the trees and in your windows for fae jacuzzis. You'll love the energy they bring to your home. Toss wildflower seeds by the roadside. Rescue a distressed animal or insect - all of these things please the fae by making the world a better place. They notice and are grateful for our efforts.
Then, too, they are always happy to be thanked for any help they give us, even if the "thank you" is simply the words spoken from the heart. It helps keep the energy of healing and helpfulness going around. They also think "random acts of kindness" to other humans are really cool.
Sometimes, when people have asked for a blessing stone to be placed on the cairn, they later wish to give a gift to the fae of the land here, especially when the request turns out well (as they wish it to, that is). The easiest way to do this is to send money and tell me what you want to get for them - or just that you want to add to the fund I spend from which I buy "fae things." I put money into the fund regularly - it is a form of tithing for me, as you might suppose. If you, too, would like to add to it, just click on the Paypal.Com donation button below and give whatever you want to give.
Alternatively, if you wish to send them a gift of your choosing, e-mail me at jesamac@pobox.com and I'll give you an address to send it to.
A thing that they (and I) very much want you to understand is that the fae blessings for the intentions symbolized by the stones that are placed on the cairn are freely given with an open heart. As are mine. Any gratitude or gifts they receive from you are happily accepted - but they give their gifts freely and don't ask reward. These are not "suggested donations."
In the meditation garden (An Lios) just across from the Blessing Cairn, people have hung crystals and small wind chimes in the branches, and the fae love the energy of them. Some have brought suitable plants or birdseed or bird feeders. There is even a new birdbath now, and the fae love the energy of the birds playing in it. Those of you who have already contributed are much thanked. Those of you who have given gifts to the fae in other ways are also gladly thanked. Bright blessings to you all!
Sometimes, people also wish to give donations to me personally for various reasons. This is much less tricky. All you need to do is to use the Paypal.com link above and specify that it is for me personally. Probably the money will wind up being spent for the same kind of things, but maybe not... I can be practical too and there is that mortgage on the land... all you need to do is click on the button here:
If you choose to make a gift to me, I thank you very, very much. I'm as grateful as the fae are when you give to them.

Once upon a time, when I still lived in Scotland, I went out for a drive up by the River Orchy. It was my birthday and, at that time of year, the rowan trees along the roadside are heavy with bright red berries. I was admiring them when someone said, "You should take a big bunch of the berries home - put them in Kuan Yin's bowl." So, I found a nice, full cluster of berries and took them home. There I put them in Kuan Yin's flower bowl in the guest room.
I went back downstairs. After a bit, I became aware that the energy in the house had changed - it was fizzing and bubbling - and the source of the wild effervescence seemed to be upstairs. When I got up there, I found rowan berries all over the floor of the guest room, the hall, and the bedroom. They were being vigorously attacked by seven excited kittens.
"Oh, no!" I said. "You terrible kittens! You've stolen the fae's berries!"
A reproving voice said with amusement, "What do you think we wanted the berries for, you silly woman!" They wanted them for the kittens' joy, of course. Making the world a better place. It's simple. All we need to do is watch for opportunities, little ones and big ones.
